"Integrations are among the most important value adds that Google Analytics provides, making it possible to combine both pre visit and visit data to paint a complete end-to-end picture of a visitor's journey through a business. Integrations provide several kinds of important insights/analysis ranging from providing deep insights into what ads lead to high quality traffic (e.g. AdWords integration) to how to better monetize your content (e.g. AdSense integration). Yep, this is the guide....
By Farm Chick
This easy to read and understand book is THE essential guide to understanding & implementing Google Analytics. I do not consider myself a very technical person yet I have built a few ecommerce sites with Wordpress & platforms like Shopify & Bigcommerce. While you do get some basic analytics with these types of sites, nothing can compare with Google, particularly when it comes to integration with mobile apps, youtube, and customized user data. The problem that this guide solves is in making Google Analytics very easy to understand for anyone & the included screenshots help tremendously for visual learners. The info presented here is both comprehensive and succinct outlined in a way that the average person can easily grasp.

I was able to move through this book fairly quickly without getting bogged down with too much technical terminology. There are some suggested resources to add to the info including the Analytics Academy, Universal Analytics, The Interface Map, etc. which supplement the guide and are absolutely essential to getting started. I find that the information in this integrations book far surpasses the info I have found on the web, which has often has left me with more questions than answers on many occasions, and yes....a great deal of frustration! One simply cannot compare taking hours to find the right answer to a fundamental problem online to having a guide available to answer any question that might (most likely WILL) come up in using Analytics.

Subjects covered in this book include; Implementation & Best Practices, Customizing Your Code, Setting Up The Analytics Interface, Tagging Your Inbound Traffic, AdWords Integration, AdSense Integration, MobileApps Integrations, Webmaster Tools, YouTube Intergration, Custom & Custom Data Integrations, User Data Integration, Marketing Campaign Data Integration, A/b Testing Data Integration, Email Data Integration, and Offline Data Integration.

I personally have gotten the most out of the marketing campaign & email data integration chapters since I am not yet at the point of using Adsense & Adwords for my sites. I mention this because I had first assumed this book dealt primarily with those channels, and I was wrong. This guide is intended for all levels of users of Google Analytics and you can easily skip to the chapter that's most relevant for your usage. The author also makes himself available to answer questions should Google decide to change/upgrade info in addition to the tips provided here, and that's downright handy. Highly recommended!

A great guide to the free, comprehensive Google Analytics platform
By Bob Walter
This is a very interesting read. Since it's written by a current Google employee, it gives insight into the Google analytics platform in the context of Google's intentions. I use Google analytics in addition to a tool that I host on my servers, Piwik. The numbers from Piwik and Google never agree. Google always shows more users. This is interesting since the Javascript for both are located one after the other in my footer. However, exact numbers is much less important than trends and page popularity, entry, and exit pages.

This book explained exactly how Analytics integrations, the combination of pre- and post-visit activities can help improve site performance. There is much in this book that goes way past my interest in site analytics, but if you have a site that produces revenue, this book and the very robust Google platform provide help in building traffic and revenue.

The book itself is well organized and it is easy to go directly to the topic of interest. While it's true that the Google help pages provide the same information, just having it in convenient form organized for easy use is well worth the price. If you use Google analytics, even casually, you will get value from this book.

Just the Book I Needed
By Rebecca Haden
Google Analytics is the gold standard for web analytics, and arguably the best source of data on website performance.

This book is not for people who are new to analytics, but it begins with an excellent discussion of how -- and why -- to start with business goals, build key performance indicators, and plan how to collect and analyze data, as well as some thoughts about testing and getting buy-in from others in your organization. This plan is much better than merely poking around in your analytics and responding to the up and down arrows.

The first chapter has a number of other useful discussions on matters like tagging traffic, setting up your interface, and implementing tracking code. None of this is extensive, but it's enough for people who are fairly comfortable with Google Analytics and able to Google up the details.

The main part of the book tells yo how to integrate Google Analytics code with other things. It takes you through the official integrations, including Adwords, AdSense, mobile apps, Webmaster Tools, and YouTube. While all this information is available online, there is a lot to be said for having step by step instructions right in front of you as you work. The instructions are thorough and written in a generally non-technical manner, though you do need to be familiar with cncepts like destination URLs, paid search, etc.

Having covered the integrations which are available in Google Analytics, the book goes on to discuss how to do custom data integration. This section frequently refers readers to Google's own documentation, and you shouldn't expect to be able to follow the instructions if you don't know HTML. However, this is again more detailed and accessible than what you'll find in Google's instructions, which are directed to professional developers.

This is entirely a how-to book, not a book to enjoy reading on your porch. If you've had some frustrations with GA integrations, or wished you could do them yourself but didn't want to take a chance, this is exactly the book you need.

Housing Policy at a Crossroads: The Why, How, and Who of Assistance Programs, by John C. Weicher

Since Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal, American housing policy has focused on building homes for the poor. But seventy-five years of federal housing projects have not significantly ameliorated crime, decreased unemployment, or improved health; recent reforms have failed to revitalize low-income neighborhoods or stimulate the economy. To be successful in the twenty-first century, American housing policy must stop reinventing failed programs.

Housing Policy at a Crossroads: The Why, How, and Who of Assistance Programs provides a comprehensive survey of past low-income housing programs, including public and subsidized housing, tax credits for developers, and block grants for state and local governments. John C. Weicher's comparative analysis of these programs yields several key conclusions: Affordability, not quality, is the most pressing challenge for housing policy today; of all the housing programs, vouchers have provided the most choice for the poor at the lowest cost to the taxpayer; because vouchers are much less expensive than public or subsidized housing, future subsidized projects would be an inefficient use of resources; vouchers should be offered only to the poorest members of society, ensuring that aid is available to those who need it most.

At once a history of housing policy, a guide to issues confronting policymakers, and a case for vouchers as the cheapest, most effective solution, Housing Policy at a Crossroads is a timely warning that reinventing failed building programs would be a very costly wrong turn for America.

Review
Weicher provides an analysis of assistance programs for low-income households in federal housing policy since the early 20th century. The book begins with an appropriate review of the historical development of federal housing programs. Weicher then argues that since FDR's New Deal housing policies, low-income residents of urban neighborhoods have not witnessed improvements in crime, unemployment, or health. As an economist, the author writes nine chapters to build the argument that federal housing subsidies have been largely ineffective for decades. Weicher asserts that HUD's policies did not induce the production of affordable, decent housing. He argues that the best policy response is to embrace housing vouchers that provide households with greater choice and lower the costs of the housing programs. It is a nice addition to the literature because it contributes to an understanding of the political debate on housing assistance. Practitioners will benefit from the author's experiences. Summing Up: Recommended. Professional collections. (CHOICE)

Weicher is a wise housing veteran who has worked in the government and in the private sector. This book adds a deep alternative perspective on affordable housing to the perspectives of many books that have been published recently. It cannot only be used as a textbook in graduate classes on housing economics or housing policy but also provides chapters for graduate classes in public finance and budgeting, program evaluation, policy making processes, and perspectives on how Washington works and ‘gets stuff done.’ (International Journal of Housing Policy)

About the Author
John C. Weicher is director of the Hudson Institute's Center for Housing and Financial Markets.

authoritative account of housing policies for the poor
By Edgar O. Olsen
Definitive account of low-income housing policies by one of the country's most knowledgeable experts. Must reading for anyone serious about the topic. Excellent illustration of the adage that the devil is in the details. Analyzes the arguments for government activity of this type, and describes the nature, size, and performance of all major federal programs. Evidence-based policy analysis at its best.

From The New England Journal of Medicine
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for approximately 40 percent of deaths annually. Although advances in the control of cardiovascular risk factors and improved treatments for acute myocardial infarction have reduced mortality for most forms of heart disease, the death rate from congestive heart failure is increasing. It is estimated that over 3.5 million people in the United States now have congestive heart failure and that 5.7 million will be affected by 2030. The incidence of heart failure increases with age, and congestive heart failure is now the leading cause of hospitalization among persons who are older than 65 years of age. Seventeen percent of patients with congestive heart failure are being cared for by cardiologists, 43 percent by internists, 29 percent by family practitioners, and 11 percent by other types of practitioners. Because of the high and increasing prevalence of congestive heart failure, it is important for a broad spectrum of physicians to be familiar with the symptoms and appropriate treatment of the condition.

Management of End-Stage Heart Disease serves the goal outlined by the editors in the preface, to "provide an overview of the nature and magnitude of the problem of end-stage heart disease and a comprehensive review of established and investigational therapies." The book has five major sections that cover the epidemiology and economics of heart failure and benchmarks for the assessment of therapy, medical therapies, conventional surgical approaches, cardiac transplantation and left ventricular assist devices, and novel surgical therapies such as ventriculectomy and dynamic cardiomyoplasty.

The first and last sections are most suited to cardiovascular specialists interested in heart transplantation and the management of congestive heart failure. The sections concerning medical therapy and standard surgical approaches are well written and appropriate in their breadth and depth. They will interest any physician caring for a patient who has congestive heart failure. Although the book is entitled Management of End-Stage Heart Disease, it clearly outlines management strategies for patients with less than end-stage disease.

The chapter by Francis, "Approach to the Patient with Severe Heart Failure," provides a seasoned and logical approach to the care of patients with congestive heart failure before and during hospitalization. Francis, like most of the other authors, has nearly two decades of experience in the management of heart failure. Young's chapter on adrenergic-blocking agents gives a valuable historical perspective and sets the stage for the use of newer beta-blocking drugs with partial alpha-adrenergic antagonism. The excellent chapters concerning the management of arrhythmias and the use of pacemakers in heart failure document the change in the paradigm for the treatment of arrhythmias in patients with cardiovascular disease, particularly those with heart failure. Mancini's chapter on the evaluation of exercise capacity in patients with heart failure is written primarily for specialists who must determine the functional capacity of and the potential outcome of heart transplantation in patients with end-stage disease. Her chapter is a state-of-the-art analysis of the components of diminished exercise capacity in patients with heart failure, including cardiac, pulmonary, and peripheral-muscle deficiencies. Stevenson provides a segue to the surgical components of the book in her analysis of the types of heart failure that require surgery.

Chapters concerning conventional surgical options for the management of heart failure are driven more by experience than data. Pagani and Bolling provide an excellent assessment of the risks and benefits of valve replacement in patients with ventricular compromise. The section on myocardial replacement, particularly transplantation, is most valuable in addressing the societal need to evaluate the cost and benefits of replacement therapies. The chapter concerning left ventricular assist devices provides an excellent overview of the sometimes confusing modes of heart support, including extracorporeal centrifugal, extracorporeal pulsatile, and implantable devices. The remainder of the surgical chapters, concerning artificial hearts and axial flow pumps, and the section on myocardial-enhancement therapies will be of benefit and interest only to specialists.

The editors, a cardiac surgeon and a cardiologist working in the area of heart failure and transplantation, have assembled authors to address not only the medical and surgical management of heart failure, but also the epidemiology and economics of this condition. The book documents the progress in this exciting area and should be read by all physicians training or practicing in the sub-subspecialty of heart failure and heart transplantation. The work will be of greatest value to the internists and generalists who care for the vast majority of patients with heart failure and who may have limited time to assimilate the wealth of available information in this rapidly changing field.

The book has three limitations, two of which reflect my bias and that of the editors. First, many chapters appear to reflect Stevenson's approach of tailored medical therapy, which mandates right-heart catheterization and the use of intravenous agents in patients with heart failure to optimize hemodynamics. Although this approach is novel, it has not yet been proved to be of greater benefit than standard approaches for hospitalized patients. Second, the book does not discuss the utility of endomyocardial biopsy in patients with congestive heart failure. Finally, the text has not been heavily edited, and many of the introductory sections are the same in various chapters.

It is evident from this book that the area of heart failure and transplantation has great potential for development as molecular and engineering advances are combined. The rate of advancement in this area will be limited only by issues of health care economics. Management of End-Stage Heart Disease appropriately summarizes our knowledge in the field to date.

Amazon.com Review
From primordial nothingness to this very moment, A Short History of Nearly Everything reports what happened and how humans figured it out. To accomplish this daunting literary task, Bill Bryson uses hundreds of sources, from popular science books to interviews with luminaries in various fields. His aim is to help people like him, who rejected stale school textbooks and dry explanations, to appreciate how we have used science to understand the smallest particles and the unimaginably vast expanses of space. With his distinctive prose style and wit, Bryson succeeds admirably. Though A Short History clocks in at a daunting 500-plus pages and covers the same material as every science book before it, it reads something like a particularly detailed novel (albeit without a plot). Each longish chapter is devoted to a topic like the age of our planet or how cells work, and these chapters are grouped into larger sections such as "The Size of the Earth" and "Life Itself." Bryson chats with experts like Richard Fortey (author of Life and Trilobite) and these interviews are charming. But it's when Bryson dives into some of science's best and most embarrassing fights--Cope vs. Marsh, Conway Morris vs. Gould--that he finds literary gold. --Therese Littleton

From Publishers Weekly
As the title suggests, bestselling author Bryson (In a Sunburned Country) sets out to put his irrepressible stamp on all things under the sun. As he states at the outset, this is a book about life, the universe and everything, from the Big Bang to the ascendancy of Homo sapiens. "This is a book about how it happened," the author writes. "In particular how we went from there being nothing at all to there being something, and then how a little of that something turned into us, and also what happened in between and since." What follows is a brick of a volume summarizing moments both great and curious in the history of science, covering already well-trod territory in the fields of cosmology, astronomy, paleontology, geology, chemistry, physics and so on. Bryson relies on some of the best material in the history of science to have come out in recent years. This is great for Bryson fans, who can encounter this material in its barest essence with the bonus of having it served up in Bryson's distinctive voice. But readers in the field will already have studied this information more in-depth in the originals and may find themselves questioning the point of a breakneck tour of the sciences that contributes nothing novel. Nevertheless, to read Bryson is to travel with a memoirist gifted with wry observation and keen insight that shed new light on things we mistake for commonplace. To accompany the author as he travels with the likes of Charles Darwin on the Beagle, Albert Einstein or Isaac Newton is a trip worth taking for most readers.

From Booklist
Confessing to an aversion to science dating to his 1950s school days, Bryson here writes for those of like mind, perhaps out of guilt about his lack of literacy on the subject. Bryson reports he has been doing penance by reading popular-science literature published in the past decade or two, and buttonholing a few science authors, such as Richard Fortey (Trilobite! Eyewitness to Evolution, 2000). The authors Bryson talks to are invariably enthusiasts who, despite their eminence, never look on his questions as silly but, rather, view them as welcome indicators of interest and curiosity. Making science less intimidating is Bryson's essential selling point as he explores an atom; a cell; light; the age and fate of the earth; the origin of human beings. Bryson's organization is historical and his prose heavy on humanizing anecdotes about the pioneers of physics, chemistry, geology, biology, evolution and paleontology, or cosmology. To those acquainted with the popular-science writing Bryson has digested, his repackaging is a trip down memory lane, but to his fellow science-phobes, Bryson' s tour has the same eye-opening quality to wonder and amazement as his wildly popular travelogues. A most unusual but extremely interesting book!
By startup_eng1
A friend of mine recommended this book knowing that I like science. I'm used to reading about the sciences in single topics. This book surprised me in the amount of effort the author took to go through book after book of different sciences, both old and new, and proceeded to connect the dots into several cohesive stories about our home, planet Earth, and its residents. The biggest surprise is how little we truly know about both and just how much luck was involved that both exist in their present form. This book is an easy read and should be understandable to anyone who has a basic interest in science.

Be prepared though to being overwhelmed because there is a lot of information in this book, with references to other works. This book is best read in sections allowing yourself some time to think about what you have learned; and I'm sure you are going to learn at least a few things.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to understand what an amazing place our planet is and life that exists on it.

Humanity's bedtime story
By Jay
I've owned this book in three versions: big and illustrated, paperback (when I left the big one with my ex-wife) and Kindle (when I realised I never wanted to be unable to open this book). I've read it twice and I open it every now and then, on my phone or Paperwhite, sometimes to remind me of something I enjoy knowing and feel the bursting pride of being a participant in humanity's great journey and sometimes to just escape the world outside and be soothed listening to the telling of a favourite story like a child at bedtime.
It’s short – although it’s actually quite long, but Bryson writes so fluidly. It’s a history – Bryson tells us what he knows or believes happened, but doesn’t hesitate to point out what he doesn’t know. It’s nearly everything – okay it’s really not nearly everything but it gets into astronomy, Neanderthals and volcanoes. Some information may have been revised in the decade since the book went into print and some science may eventually be proved shaky, but I have not come across a better rough guide to essential human knowledge.

Highly Entertaining with Easy Readability
By Amazon Customer
A very comprehensive overlook of the universe and our history in an entertaining manner. Easily readable for amateur and professional science buffs alike. The only minor problem is that some of the facts need updating with new findings since this was written in 2004 and scientific findings are coming at an ever increasing rate. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with even a passing interest in science as they will find it hard to put down once started.

These eighteen midrashim -- or stories in the Bible -- are filled with hope, suspense, and a healthy dose of comedy. They also address some of life's big questions: How can I hear God in the world? Is there a best color for a person to be? And why isn't there pro wrestling in heaven? In this sequel to his award-winning book Does God have a big Toe? Rabbi Marc Gellman shows how important the age-old stories are all of us.

Rabbi Gellman's stories about stories in the Bible-or modern midrashim, if you prefer-will delight parents and children alike. Using imagination and humor-did you know about the 11th-16th commandments that Moses wrote on his sleeve but his wife washed off?-Gellman's retellings of Bible stories provide readers with whole new perspectives on stories they may have known for years. The story about how Moses and a wisecracking frog convinced Pharaoh to let the Jews leave Egypt is particularly funny and contains elements that would surely make God smile, if not laugh out loud. Ages 8-12.

From School Library Journal
Grade 4-7?As demonstrated in Does God Have a Big Toe? (HarperCollins, 1989) and How Do You Spell God? (Morrow, 1995), Rabbi Gellman is an expert at making Bible stories interesting and accessible. Using a thoroughly modern vocabulary, a completely informal style, and plenty of sly humor, he highlights the Creation, the Garden of Eden, Jacob's ladder, the Exodus, Moses and the Ten Commandments (expanded here to 16), and bits of wisdom from Leviticus and Deuteronomy. As little as one Scripture verse inspires a neat lesson, as it is expanded into a clever new form, complete with lots of hip dialogue and amusing anachronistic details. The danger of trivializing the sacred is avoided by the appropriate, unmistakable message in each tale and the retention of the basic characters and events. Unabashedly urging readers to love the Bible, God, and people, Gellman shows them that human experience hasn't changed. Some knowledge of the original stories is almost essential to appreciate fully these interpretive expansions of Scripture. Their positive points, made with humor and simplicity, however, are valid far beyond the Judeo-Christian tradition.?Patricia Pearl Dole, formerly at First Presbyterian School, Martinsville, VA
Copyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Kirkus Reviews
This sequel to the highly entertaining Does God Have a Big Toe? (1989) combines retellings of Old Testament stories and invented stories about Biblical characters, mainly Adam and Moses. Gellman leavens the stories with humor and contemporary references; his style of telling (lots of exclamation points, parenthetical asides, slang, and words in italics, etc.) may mark these as intended to be read aloud with lots of hamming and mugging. Perhaps that will put them over with a very young audience, but those reading the tales will find the technique strained, smarmy, and condescending. Instead of ``modern midrashim,'' as Gellman calls them, these laborious attempts at comedy are a combination of pointless anachronisms (God explaining restaurants, television, and computers to Moses, and why there are no video games or Wrestlemania in heaven to Jacob) and a lot of nudging and winking. God's Mailbox
By David M. Gilbert
Another excellent volume by Marc Gellman (the other is DOES GOD HAVE A BIG TOE?). His stories are midrashim, that is, stories about Bible stories, or more precisely, Torah stories. Gellman's creativity and sense of humor make these stories worth telling and retelling. Children and adults find something in them which helps make sense of our often-chaotic lives. My personal favorites are "Smack The Coconut" (about how Adam and Eve met, but also about how human beings find one another); "Painting People Purple" (you'll have to read it to find out); and "The Commandments on Moses' Sleeve" (did you know about Commandments XI - XVI?) I have used many of Gellman's stories when working with both students and their parents, whether as a brief sermonette, or to comment on the Torah portion of the week, as well as teaching religious school classes. The responses have ranged from "Thanks - now I understand that Parshat" to "Where can I get a copy of that book for my kids?"

The tale of Garro is well told and adds more backstory to the Horus Heresy
By A. Sandoc
The Flight of the Eisenstein marks the continuation of the Horus Heresy Saga which began with Dan Abnett's Horus Rising and followed up by both Graham McNeill's False Gods and Ben Counter's Galaxy In Flames. James Swallow takes on the 4th book in the saga and he continues to show definite improvement with his grasp of the rich, detailed history and backstory that is Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 Universe. The Flight of the Eisenstein is a very well-written and Swallow does a great job in bringing the epic story of the Heresy to a smaller, but still interesting stage.

The Flight of the Eisenstein is shown through the eyes of Battle-Captain Nathaniel Garro of the Death Guard Legion's 7th Company. Garro's seen as well-liked and respected by his men and some of his peers outside his Company. His character shares the same nobility and introspective nature as the previous three books main characters in the Luna Wolves' Garviel Loken and the Emperor's Children's Saul Tarvitz. This helps tie Garro to the path he'll soon take as one of the few loyalist survivors of Horus' betrayal of the Emperor and the Legiones Astartes at Istvaan III. But before Garro will lead his company to flight in order to take Horus' betrayal to the Emperor in far-off Terra, he and the rest of the Death Guard are shown just how effective a war machine they are with their assault and determined annihilation of an alien race called the jorgalli. It is also in the novel's opening battle with this alien race where Garro first hears the psychic warnings that will soon tear the Astartes brotherhood asunder.

Soon Garro must follow his Primarch Mortation and the rest of the Death Guard to the Istvaan system where they meet up with the rest of Horus' task force. Garro and his men are too late to stop the actions his Primarch makes in support of Horus' plan but they make a desperate escape of the traitor legions' fleet blockade. It is during the escape and their subsequent attempts to survive in the Warp with a damaged ship which takes up the bulk of the novel. It is during this middle-half of the book which shows the internal dilemmas each Death Guard must face on their own after seeing what they've believed in and fought for just thrown away by their Legion and battle-brothers. Some make it through the crisis of faith whole and stronger for it while others succumb to the easy way out which Horus and his followers took to retain power and influence.

Swallow really does a great job in introducing not just the Death Guard, but also some of the more unique forces protecting the Imperium. The exotic and mysterious Sisters of Silence make their appearance and becomes a major factor in determining the fate of Garro and his men in the final third of the book. Even the Emperor's own personal guard, the Legiones Custodes, make a brief appearance in the end. James Swallow really sets up well the next stage of the Horus Heresy saga and he follows the guidelines set before him by others writers instead of going off on a wild tangent which doesn't even resemble the 40k universe as he did with the two books about the Blood Angels.

The Flight of the Eisenstein marks the 4th and continuing excellent storytelling of the biggest event in Warhammer 40k's history: The Horus Heresy. James Swallow does a great job in keeping the story from becoming just another big war story and actually infuses the novel with characters that were well-rounded. The next book in the series will be the one titled Fulgrim and will deal with that Primarch's rise and fall as one of the Emperor's sons. It will have quite a standard to reach for after The Flight of the Eisentein and the three prececing books.

Rises to the Occasion
By Sean B. Schoonmaker
James Swallow takes up the fourth novel of the Horus Heresy series, which follows one of the pivotal historical events of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 universe. This novel tells the tale of Battle-Captain Nathaniel Garro of the Death Guard, a minor character in the previous books, and at its core this is a tale of his personal growth and discovery, though action features heavily as well. He is cut of the same cloth as Captain Garviel of the Sons of Horus Legion and main protagonist from the first novels: able, principled, and introspective. Several Primarchs and historical characters make appearances, including: Horus, Rogal Dorn, Mortarion, Captain Typhon (Death Guard), Captain Tarvitz (Emperor's Children), Captain Sigismund (Imperial Fists), and others.

I have been a vocal critic of M. Swallow's past works for the Black Library, which have been long on purple prose and dues ex machina, and short on background knowledge and plot, so I picked up this book with no small amount of trepidation. However, I must say that this is easily his best work and is a worthy successor to the other Horus Heresy books.

The characters have depth, realistic motivations and reactions, and grow in ways that make sense. Particularly telling is Garro's development as he attempts to come to terms with the betrayal of his own Primarch and that of Horus. Without going into anything that would spoil the plot for others, let's just say that it's well done

The action scenes flow well, and convey an excellent sense of urgency. The opponents don't make stupid mistakes for the sake of the plot - a weakness in M. Swallow's prior works. His descriptions of the Primarchs, particularly Mortarion, feel slightly mundane once or twice, but typically have the proper sense of awe. The ending of the book gives a tantalizing hint of things to come without being a tease.

In short: a solid addition to the Horus Heresy series and a good read that you'll have trouble putting down.

One of the best of the series!
By A. C. Parrish
Eisenstein was surprisingly one of the best books of the series. Following up on the original three-book offering, I thought the next installment would feel somewhat tacked-on, but not so! Swallow made me care about the characters, and I felt like I was on the proverbial edge of my seat for much of the book. The pacing was sharp, and the plot of the whole series continued to advance (which becomes a huge issue for the HH series, after the first 5-6 books).

If you liked the first three books, definitely get this one. You'll not be disappointed. If you haven't read the prequels yet, wait on this one. For the first 5 books of the series, it really is best to read them in order.

(After that, skip Descent of Angels, and read the synopsis before deciding what interests you. Some of the books, like Prospero Burning and Thousand Sons, are absolutely not worth reading both unless you just can't get enough of the series. Sometimes reading a story from multiple points of view is useful and illuminating -- like in the classic movie Roshomon -- but this just isn't the case with the Space Wolves and Thousand Sons conflict; it's utterly redundant.)
