The Yard, By Aliyyah Eniath

This book elegantly reveals the complexities of family dynamics, love, loss and hope. It is at it's heart a story of love that is stark, gut wrenching and at times, all to familiar.

Set in the context of a Trinidadian-Muslim family, this telling skillfully pulls the curtain aside and welcomes the reader into the world of a diverse cast of characters and manages to transform archetypes into complex and relate-able individuals. It offers a less often presented insight into the multifaceted world of the Trinidad Muslim experience.

'The Yard' is the first novel by Aliyyah Eniath and it has earned its place on my book shelf.

One of the best books I've read

This was a really heart touching story. It chronicles the lives of the families that live in 'The Yard'. It's also a coming of age story of Maya. The story mainly revolves around her but there are also a few subplots involving the other characters which make this book the brilliant piece of art it is. Family and love form the main themes but there are also so many other feelings like guilt, regret, forgiveness and courage to face everything life throws at you. Although it starts off a bit slow, this book was pretty great to read. I loved this story because it just seems so real. The characters in this story could be anyone. This book deals with things many people deal with (in different ways of course) and you can empathise and understand every single one of the characters. Nothing is one sided here. The author makes you understand all the different points of view and I thought that that was just beautiful.

The Yard by Aliyyah Eniath does the very same!

A novel that mends your heart, just to break it again and see you bleed ruthlessly.

Set in Trinidad, The Yard tells a heart breaking tale of Behrooz, Sara, Maya and her family. The complexity in human nature and behavior is woven perfectly.

During the whole episode of Maya, Sara and Behrooz, I felt perturbation and agitation contemplating 'what heart shattering thing it will show now!'

The flaw in the characters of The Yard, their mannerism, perspective, thought process, redemption, regrets, unrestrained fears, rampant melancholy and evocative memories galvanized me.

They sat in the same spot for the entire morning. Behrooz was reading the daily newspaper and Sara was absorbed in another paperback. On the wall across the room hung a photo of Asim embedded in a stone frame.

He sat, smiling from ear to ear, on the sand, with a sand dollar in his hands. The image was captured on their first visit to Mayaro beach when he was two years old. His happiness seemed to jump out of the picture and infect anyone who looked at it.

The significance and gravity these lines contained caused me overwhelming grief.

Aliyyah's steel hard determination and hard work of 5 years is visible, audible and heart-penetrative in this expressive and powerful piece of work.

In mere 272 pages, she made my eyes moisturized.
My tears struggled to come out or go in and dry just there, they didn't know what to do!

The Yard broke my heart many times and each time, it did so, so beautifully.

Such fabulous cover fits the story, making you stop and admire its beauty for a while.

A great job indeed!

I find it useful. I'm enjoying how to use the right word ...

I've barely gotten into the book because I'm trying to absorb each line and remembering what I've learned. My formal education is limited, so this could take awhile before I finish the book. So far, I find it useful. I'm enjoying how to use the right word and spelling it correctly.

A Must-Have Tool for Those Who Need to Use the Correct Words

Did you know that a billion in the UK has twelve zeroes? Or when to use the words accused and alleged?

Those are just two examples of the knowledge contained within the pages of this informative book. I have used it to look up words as well as reading page after page of the alphabetical listings (though it sounds like reading the dictionary, it is much more fun and I learn something new every time).

Definitely worth the money, and a great asset to have on the Kindle.

A fun read of discovery.

Poor Jake.
He likes his guys Big.. Big Muscles, Big Build, Big Ego. Even Jake himself like to body build and lift weights to make himself Big.
And to add to all of the ego Jake has a Big list of female conquests to brag about. Just let any Gay try and flirt with him and Jake will put them in their place!!!

Then by a misplaced text message and an encounter with a fox who is also Big - Jake's life turns upside down and makes him rethink everything about himself.

An enjoyable read about coming out and acceptance of who you are.

About the Author
Andrew Rozanov is Managing Director and Head of Institutional Portfolio Advisory at Permal Group, responsible for advising sovereign wealth funds and other long-term institutional investors on various aspects of asset allocation, portfolio construction, risk management and alternative investments, with a particular focus on global macro and tail risk strategies. Before joining Permal, Mr. Rozanov was at State Street, where he was Managing Director and Head of Sovereign Advisory, working closely with the Portfolio and Risk Management Group. Prior to that, he held various roles at State Street Corporation in London and Tokyo, and he also worked at UBS Investment Bank in Japan. Mr. Rozanov is well known in the industry for having introduced the term sovereign wealth funds in an article in Central Banking Journal in 2005. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a Financial Risk Manager (FRM), and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA). He holds a Master s equivalent degree in Asian and African Studies from Moscow State University.

This book is about understanding Global Macro hedge funds, not a guide to Global Macro investing.

This is a really hard book to review. I gave it 5 stars, but you *must* understand what it aims to teach, and what it does not aim to teach, before you buy it. At first, I was disappointed, because I bought the book expecting one thing but got something else. But it gets 5 stars in doing what it set out to do, and my misconception of what I was buying is not the book's fault. The fact that there were no other Amazon reviews to read was the real problem. Yet, in the end, I'm glad I paid the money and bought the book. It taught me things I did not even know I needed to know. I can now think like a global macro hedge fund manager -- but not necessarily invest like one.

I would rename this book, "Understanding the Structure and Philosophy of Global Macro Hedge Funds from the Inside Out". If you want to interview and work for a Global Macro hedge fund, it's a no-brainer: Buy this book. You must know this stuff. I learned a ton, and I'm glad I bought it. For instance, I now understand exactly how systematic macro fits into the big picture from the eyes of a fund-of-funds manager (and the people who determine allocation sizing). I can actually use this to design my own systems in ways that will be more useful to, more marketable to, and more effective in a fund environment. Flat out, I could make more money in this environment by knowing this material, and this is the only book I know of that goes into this in such detail. It's really one-of-a-kind, and it deserves every star I gave it.

On the other hand, I learned very little about actual global macro investing strategies from the book. Only two chapters out of fourteen even really go into any detail about specific investments and the logic behind them, and those examples are not particularly advanced. I bought the book expecting a discussion of the practical application of macroeconomic principles ("Theory") to specific investments ("Practice"); how the raw data was analyzed, how macroeconomic models were applied, how entries and exits were determined (over tens of examples and a consistent framework). After all, that's what the name "Global Macro: Theory and Practice" suggests to me. I got none of that, so if that's what you want, don't buy this book.

In the end, I might even say I learned nothing about actual global macro investing from a $200+ Global Macro book. But would I trade back the knowledge I gained about Macro Funds back for a mere $200? Not a chance. Because I do already have an investment methodology, and I have investment experience in global macro (and I bought the book hoping to gain further insights). But I've always focused on my own investments, from the perspective of an individual proprietary investor. This book expands the scope, showing in exact detail how to apply it effectively in the context of 100 other investment systems within the environment of a global macro hedge fund and then understand and evaluate your own performance through the eyes of the managers of that multi-billion-dollar fund. Where else will you find that? Nowhere, as far as I know.

The book gets 5 stars, but know what you're buying.

Phenomenal!!! Five Stars!!

I loved this book/series! From the very first page it pulls you in and it keeps you turning pages, wanting to know what happens to the characters. The way Timberlyn Scott unfolds the story is amazing, if you love a great love story this one is for you! I will be recommending this to my friends! Sebastian and Payton's story will leave you longing for what they have found.

There is only one negative comment to be made, and there is only one, so let me emphasize by saying, it has NOTHING to do with the writing or the story in any way! Unhinged is not a complete, stand-alone book! You have to purchase all of the books in Sebastian's and Payton's story before you get to the end! Waiting weeks between the next installment. If you are anything like me and HATE cliff hangers or having to wait for the end of a book and another release date, then I would recommend you wait until ALL of the books in this particular story are completed and Ms. Scott finishes Sebastian and Payton's main story! I would have preferred to pay FULL PRICE and had the book complete from start to finish. Or at least been told up front that this was not a stand-alone so I could have waited for the book in it's entirety. I have noticed that some E-book authors have been doing this and it's not something I am a fan of. Not sure what the attraction to this form of distribution is, BUT, AGAIN, this series is wonderful and I would wholly recommend it!

Great debut by a new author, I was left Un-F'ing-Hinged after reading it! (no spoilers)

I really enjoyed this book. It was a great start to a series.
Payton is a young woman beginning her career at a big company, I was interested in her story from the beginning. I could imagine her interactions with her new boss and her friends. She was dreaming about this guy, it was interesting how he pulled at her. Who is he and why is she dreaming about him?
Sebastian is a bad boy with secrets and a past. He spends his days working on cars and he seems brilliant at what he does. I felt his sexy allure and I was very intrigued on why he is so angry and what is his secret? He too is dreaming, but he is dreaming about this girl, I loved how she pulled at him.
Their worlds collide and sparks flare, but Payton is off limits. Can Sebastian pull back or will his dreams pull him closer to her? I needed to know! The killer is the ending. I was left with the need for more of the story, I was left Un-F'ing-Hinged!

My least favorite book by far, and that says quite a lot as I have loved most of her books. I can't say that I enjoyed anything about this book. Payton annoyed me, a lot. I kept waiting for her to get out of her head a bit but, no, she stayed in this alternate reality that honestly doesn't exist for most 25 year old people I know. I tried to like Sebastian but I didn't get to know him enough to want to read the rest of the series. I love a good bad boy, but he just wasn't enough to draw me in. I got the impression this book was written for a much younger crowd, and if so, then market it as such! I will not continue with this series!

Read this before purchasing a used book between $3 and $20 and make sure CD is included, it's the only way to take the practice

Great book but make sure you purchase it with the CD, which has all the practice exams. Without the CD all you have are the test answers in the back of the book. Taking the practice tests is where you are going to spend most of your time and get the most benefit out of this book! Also be careful buying this book from the sellers who are listing it at between $3--$20 as they likely are not including the CD. Also look for the 2013 edition rather than the 2012, I know the 2013 works great if you are planning to take the test anytime before 2016. One more thing, I would recommend buying a book without highlighting in it as it can throw you off as to where you need to focus and limit your own ability to really learn and what you are reading. Good luck, I just took the test at the end of April and passed on my first try, couldn't have done it without this book. The flash cards were also very helpful!

Good book but lacking in some information

Its a good book to study for the basics in the NPTE exam, I passed the exam with my first attempt. The musculoskeletal section is especially weak compared to the O'sullivan book. The Neurology and research section are probably the best part of the book.Overall, it is a good starting book to read if you are preparing for the exams, I would recommend that you read the O'sullivan book also, as a lot of information is included in that book compared to this one which seems to skim over stuff. The information is well presented in tables and in highlighted colorful sections with emphasis on important information to know for the exam. i would recommend this book as a starting book but read the O'sullivan as well.

Basically what I expected - minor discrepancies noted

Outlines material expected on the PT exam. Pretty much what I expected it to be, no surprises (good or bad).

I did notice some small discrepancies, such as the book stating that the deep peroneal nerve innervates the lumbricals and interossei in the feet. I'd recommend that if you're uncertain about content in this book, to double check it with a PT textbook. I verified a few errors already.

Dr. Sandie Freed and her husband, Mickey, are the founders and directors of Zion Ministries in North Richland Hills, Texas (www.zionministries.us). She is an ordained prophetess with Christian International and travels extensively, ministering deliverance and life transformation to God's people. She is the author of nine books, including Silencing the Accuser and Crushing the Spirits of Greed and Poverty, and has been a featured guest on James Robison's Life Today and Daystar's Celebration.

a good read

This is a very readable book (I read it in a couple of evenings) that goes into quite a bit of detail about the spirits that come against us to steal our destinies. Not just the usual ones discussed either. The author covers the spirits of Amalekite, Belial and Athaliah, as well as Jezebel... (the regulars :). She explains how they operate (their tactics) and gives very specific counsel on how to be set free from them. I found the book easy to read, even though the content isn't pleasant. I am the librarian for our church library, and this book is definitely going to be added (as soon as I can find it).

Spiritual Warfare Equipping

This is an excellent book on exposing some of the lies & tactics of the enemy and then how to combat and defeat these lies that have kept people in bondage for generations upon generations. Though the actual reading of this book is quite simple, the content of the book for where I am spiritual was very powerful and many of the things I learned were totally new to me.

Though I'm very well-versed as a lay Bible person, having been a Christian for many years, it's only been the past few years the prophetic, destiny type things have been something I was interested in. Maybe these things were told to me, but I just wasn't opened to receiving the messages and now I am.

She talks about some of the bad guys in the Bible and goes more in-depth into the history of things, sharing her experiences, and backing things up with Scripture & prayer. She outlines/lists characteristics of certain evil spirits, including unclean spirits and how they may manifest in our daily lives. This was so eye-opening for me and explained the bondage I've been in.

Loved that in a number of the chapters, there were prayers of renunciation/rebuking/repentence of the evil spirits/poor choices/generational curses that we've allowed or are in our lives. Things really made sense. It took me nearly 2 months to read this book because there was so much meat in it for me to digest.

I'd read a chapter or 2 and then go digest/implement things in my life through prayer. I'd share with my life groups what I was learning and other Christian friends. This book as well as the other books of Sandie's are life changing. God bless her.
